CTPS2

Description

The CTPS2 (CTP synthase 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.

CTP synthase 2 is an enzyme encoded by the CTPS2 gene in humans. It converts UTP to CTP, simultaneously deaminating glutamine to glutamate. This enzyme is critical for the synthesis of cytosine nucleotides, which are essential for RNA and DNA production. Increased activity of CTPS2 is observed in cancer cells with high proliferation rates, making it a potential target for chemotherapy. Two alternative transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified for this gene.

CTPS2 is also known as GATD5B.
