CTDSP2

Description

The CTDSP2 (CTD small phosphatase 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

CTDSP2 (Carboxy-terminal domain RNA polymerase II polypeptide A small phosphatase 2) is an enzyme encoded by the CTDSP2 gene in humans. It has been shown to interact with SNAI1. CTDSP2 is involved in the regulation of RNA polymerase II transcription and neuronal gene silencing. It may also be implicated in the development of sarcomas.

CTDSP2 preferentially removes phosphate groups from serine 5 within the repeating units of the C-terminal domain (CTD) of the largest subunit of RNA polymerase II (POLR2A). This activity is thought to regulate the transition from initiation/capping to elongation during RNA transcription. CTDSP2 is recruited by REST to neuronal genes containing RE-1 elements, contributing to silencing of these genes in non-neuronal cells. There is evidence suggesting that CTDSP2 might be involved in the development of sarcomas.

CTDSP2 is also known as OS4, PSR2, SCP2.
