CTBP2

Description

The CTBP2 (C-terminal binding protein 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 10.

CtBP2 is a protein encoded by the CTBP2 gene in humans. It is a corepressor, meaning it typically turns off gene expression. CtBP2 binds to specific DNA-binding proteins, carrying a PIDLS motif, and recruits histone-modifying enzymes like histone deacetylases, histone methylases, and histone demethylases. These enzymes remove activating marks and add repressive marks to histones, ultimately silencing gene expression. CtBP2 can interact with a variety of DNA-binding proteins and other corepressors, forming larger complexes that regulate gene transcription. It appears to act primarily as a scaffold protein, facilitating the assembly of gene repression complexes.
