Chronic Suppurative Tonsillitis (CST)
Description
Chronic suppurative tonsillitis (CST) is a persistent infection of the tonsils, which are small lymphatic glands located at the back of the throat. The tonsils normally help to trap bacteria and viruses that enter the mouth and nose, but in some people, they can become chronically infected.
CST is characterized by recurrent episodes of tonsillar inflammation and pus formation. Symptoms can include:
- Sore throat
- Difficulty swallowing
- Swollen and red tonsils with white or yellow pus
- Bad breath
- Enlarged lymph nodes in the neck
- Fever
- Fatigue
Associated Diseases
CST can be associated with a variety of other health conditions, including:
- Rheumatic fever: A serious inflammatory condition that can affect the heart, joints, and other organs.
- Glomerulonephritis: A kidney disease that can lead to kidney failure.
- Sepsis: A life-threatening infection that spreads throughout the body.
