CSNK1A1

Description

The CSNK1A1 (casein kinase 1 alpha 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.

Casein kinase 1 isoform alpha is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the CSNK1A1 gene. It interacts with Centaurin, alpha 1 and AXIN1.

Casein kinases are known for their ability to phosphorylate acidic proteins, including caseins. CSNK1A1, also known as casein kinase 1 alpha (CKI-alpha), exhibits a broad substrate specificity and can phosphorylate numerous proteins. This kinase plays a crucial role in Wnt signaling by phosphorylating CTNNB1 at Ser-45. Additionally, it may be involved in the phosphorylation of PER1 and PER2. CSNK1A1 may contribute to chromosome segregation during mitosis and participate in the disassembly of the keratin cytoskeleton, potentially regulating epithelial cell migration. Furthermore, it positively regulates mTORC1 and mTORC2 signaling in response to nutrients by phosphorylating the DEPTOR inhibitor. CSNK1A1 is thought to inhibit NLRP3 inflammasome assembly by phosphorylating NLRP3. These diverse activities of CSNK1A1 highlight its importance in various cellular processes.

CSNK1A1 is also known as CK1, CK1a, CKIa, HEL-S-77p, HLCDGP1, PRO2975.
