CRY1
HTML Blog Post on Cry1
Description
Cry1 is a protein produced by the Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) bacterium, a naturally occurring soil bacterium. It is widely used as an insecticide in agriculture due to its specific toxicity to certain insect pests, including moths, beetles, and larvae. Cry1 is a crystal protein that forms a pore in the midgut of susceptible insects, causing cell lysis and ultimately death.
Associated Diseases
Cry1 is not known to cause any diseases in humans or non-target organisms. However, prolonged exposure to high concentrations of Cry1 in the environment can lead to the development of resistance in pests. This can reduce the effectiveness of Cry1 as an insecticide.
Did you Know ?
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Cry1 is one of the most widely used insecticides in the world, with over 100 million hectares treated annually.
