CREG1

Description

The CREG1 (cellular repressor of E1A stimulated genes 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

CREG1, or Cellular Repressor of E1A-stimulated Genes 1, is a protein encoded by the CREG1 gene in humans. The E1A protein from adenoviruses can both activate and repress gene expression to stimulate cell growth and suppress differentiation. CREG1 counteracts these effects of E1A by inhibiting gene activation and preventing cell transformation. CREG1 shares some similarities with E1A and binds to both the general transcription factor TBP and the tumor suppressor protein pRb in laboratory settings. This gene may be involved in regulating cell growth and differentiation.

CREG1 plays a role in regulating cell growth and differentiation. It counteracts the effects of the E1A protein from adenoviruses, which can promote cell proliferation and inhibit differentiation. CREG1's ability to control cell growth is dependent on its interaction with IGF2R.

CREG1 is also known as CREG.
