Description

Chronic polycythemia vera (CPVL) is a rare blood cancer that causes an overproduction of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. This excess can lead to dangerously high blood counts, increasing the risk of blood clots, heart attacks, strokes, and other serious complications.

CPVL is often associated with other blood disorders, including:

  • Thrombocytosis: Elevated platelet count
  • Leukocytosis: Elevated white blood cell count
  • Myelofibrosis: Scarring of the bone marrow
  • Acute myeloid leukemia (AML): A type of blood cancer
