Description

The CPSF4 (cleavage and polyadenylation specific factor 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.

CPSF4 (Cleavage and polyadenylation specificity factor subunit 4) is a protein encoded by the CPSF4 gene in humans. It is essential for the 3' end processing of pre-mRNA, a crucial step in gene expression. CPSF4's function is disrupted by the influenza A virus NS1 protein, which blocks the nuclear export of poly(A)-containing mRNAs. This disruption occurs through the interaction between the NS1 effector domain and CPSF4. The NS1 protein physically associates with CPSF4, preventing its binding to RNA substrates and inhibiting the 3' end cleavage and polyadenylation of host pre-mRNAs. This selective inhibition by NS1 protein targets cellular mRNAs, leaving viral mRNAs unaffected. Multiple isoforms of CPSF4 have been identified due to alternative splicing.

CPSF4 is also known as CPSF30, NAR, NEB-1, NEB1.
