CPSF2

Description

The CPSF2 (cleavage and polyadenylation specific factor 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.

CPSF2 (Cleavage and polyadenylation specificity factor subunit 2) is a protein essential for pre-mRNA 3' end processing and polyadenylation. It is a subunit of the CPSF complex, which plays a crucial role in this process. CPSF2 acts as a connector between the two subunits of the complex, mCF and mPSF, ensuring both stable interaction and flexibility for proper function. Mutations in specific regions of CPSF2 can inhibit the formation of the CPSF complex, highlighting its essential role.

CPSF2 is a crucial component of the cleavage and polyadenylation specificity factor (CPSF) complex, which plays a vital role in the formation of the 3' end of pre-mRNA. CPSF2 works by recognizing the AAUAAA signal sequence within the pre-mRNA and interacting with poly(A) polymerase and other factors. This interaction triggers the cleavage of the pre-mRNA and the addition of a poly(A) tail, essential processes for mRNA maturation and translation. CPSF2 is also involved in the specific processing of histone pre-mRNAs.

CPSF2 is also known as CPSF100.
