CPLX3

Description

The CPLX3 (complexin 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

Complexin-3 plays a crucial role in regulating the release of neurotransmitters at photoreceptor synapses in the retina. It enhances synaptic transmission by ensuring the availability of synaptic vesicles and promoting their fusion, thereby facilitating the release of neurotransmitters. Additionally, Complexin-3 acts to suppress the continuous release of neurotransmitters, reducing baseline activity and 'noise' in the retina. This suppression is achieved by inhibiting the tonic release of calcium-dependent vesicles and promoting the synchronized and asynchronous release of these vesicles upon stimulation. These intricate functions of Complexin-3 contribute to the precise and efficient signaling within the retinal circuitry.

CPLX3 is also known as CPX-III, CPXIII, Nbla11589.
