COX18

Description

The COX18 (cytochrome c oxidase assembly factor COX18) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

COX18 is a mitochondrial membrane insertase that facilitates the translocation of the C-terminus of cytochrome c oxidase subunit II (COX2) across the mitochondrial inner membrane. It plays a role in COX2 maturation, acting after COX20 stabilizes newly synthesized COX2 and before the metallochaperones SCO1/2. COX18 is essential for the assembly and stability of complex IV of the mitochondrial respiratory chain, also known as cytochrome c oxidase.

COX18 is also known as COX18HS, OXA1L2.
