COPS2

Description

The COPS2 (COP9 signalosome subunit 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

COP9 signalosome complex subunit 2 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the COPS2 gene. It encodes a subunit of the COP9 signalosome. COPS2 has been shown to interact with: DAX1, IRF8, NIF3L1, and THRA.

COPS2 is a key component of the COP9 signalosome complex (CSN), which plays a crucial role in regulating various cellular and developmental processes. The CSN complex acts as a critical regulator of the ubiquitin (Ubl) conjugation pathway. It achieves this by mediating the deneddylation of cullin subunits within SCF-type E3 ligase complexes. This deneddylation process leads to a decrease in the Ubl ligase activity of these complexes, including SCF, CSA, and DDB2. Additionally, the CSN complex is involved in the phosphorylation of several proteins, including p53/TP53, c-jun/JUN, IkappaBalpha/NFKBIA, ITPK1, and IRF8/ICSBP. This phosphorylation is believed to occur through the complex's association with CK2 and PKD kinases. The CSN-dependent phosphorylation of TP53 and JUN promotes and protects them from degradation by the Ubl system, respectively. COPS2 contributes to the early stages of neuronal differentiation through its interaction with NIF3L1.

COPS2 is also known as ALIEN, CSN2, SGN2, TRIP15.
