COPRS

Description

The COPRS (coordinator of PRMT5 and differentiation stimulator) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

COPRS is a histone-binding protein essential for the histone H4 methyltransferase activity of PRMT5. It specifically enables PRMT5 to methylate histone H4 at arginine 3 (H4R3) but not histone H3 at arginine 8 (H3R8), indicating that COPRS regulates PRMT5's substrate specificity. COPRS directly interacts with the N-terminal region of histone H4, but not histone H3, implying that it facilitates the binding of PRMT5 to histone H4. COPRS is involved in repressing the CCNE1 promoter and contributes to muscle cell differentiation by modulating the recruitment of PRMT5 to promoters of genes involved in the transition from cell cycle exit to muscle differentiation.

COPRS is also known as C17orf79, COPR5, HSA272196, TTP1.
