COL6A5

Description

The COL6A5 (collagen type VI alpha 5 chain) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

The COL6A5 gene encodes the Collagen alpha-5(VI) chain, also known as von Willebrand factor A domain-containing protein 4. COL6A5 is part of the Collagen VI gene family, which produces collagen components for the Extracellular matrix of most connective tissues. In the human genome, some of the Collagen VI family genes are located on chromosome 3q, with COL6A4, COL6A5, and COL6A6 in that order. Transcription of COL6A5 occurs specifically in skin, lung, testis, colon, and small intestine cells.

Collagen VI serves as a cell-binding protein.

COL6A5 is also known as COL29A1, VWA4.
