CNBP : CCHC-type zinc finger nucleic acid binding protein

Description

The CNBP (CCHC-type zinc finger nucleic acid binding protein) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

The CNBP gene provides instructions for making a protein called CCHC-type zinc finger nucleic acid binding protein. This protein contains seven zinc finger domains, which bind to specific sites on DNA and RNA. CNBP is found in many tissues but is most abundant in the heart and skeletal muscles. It regulates the activity of other genes and is crucial for normal prenatal development, particularly of muscles. One region of the CNBP gene contains a CCTG tetranucleotide repeat, which is repeated fewer than 26 times in most individuals.

CNBP is also known as CNBP1, DM2, PROMM, RNF163, ZCCHC22, ZNF9.
