CLDN7

Description

The CLDN7 (claudin 7) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

Claudin-7 is a protein produced by the CLDN7 gene in humans. It belongs to the claudin family, which are proteins involved in building tight junctions between epithelial cells. Tight junctions act as barriers, preventing the movement of lipids and membrane proteins between cells and clearly defining the boundaries between the top (apical) and bottom (basolateral) regions of epithelial cells.

Claudin-7 is crucial in forming tight junctions between epithelial cells, effectively sealing off the spaces between cells.

CLDN7 is also known as CEPTRL2, CLDN-7, CPETRL2, Hs.84359, claudin-1.
