CLCA4

Description

The CLCA4 (chloride channel accessory 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

Chloride channel accessory 4, also known as CLCA4, is a protein encoded by the CLCA4 gene in humans. While it's classified as a chloride channel, structural analysis suggests that CLCA4 itself doesn't directly form an ion channel. Instead, the N-terminal region of the protein appears to function as a zinc metalloprotease. This suggests CLCA4 might play a regulatory role in chloride channel activity, rather than being the channel itself. Further research is needed to fully understand its precise function.

CLCA4 is also known as CaCC, CaCC2.
