CHRNB4

Description

The CHRNB4 (cholinergic receptor nicotinic beta 4 subunit) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

The CHRNB4 gene encodes for Neuronal acetylcholine receptor subunit beta-4, a protein involved in nerve cell communication. The receptor is composed of alpha and beta subunits, with beta-4 forming functional receptors when combined with alpha-2, alpha-3, or alpha-4 subunits. It interacts with RIC3 for proper folding and assembly, and also interacts with LYPD6. The alpha3-beta-4 pentamer interacts with conotoxin BuIA, and the alpha-3 and beta-4 subunit heteropentamer interacts with alpha-conotoxin ImI.

When acetylcholine binds to the AChR, it triggers a significant conformational change across all subunits. This change opens an ion channel within the cell's membrane, allowing the passage of ions.
