CHN2

Description

The CHN2 (chimerin 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.

Chimerin 2 (beta-chimaerin) is a protein encoded by the CHN2 gene. It belongs to the chimerin family and contains a phorbol-ester/diacylglycerol-type zinc finger, a Rho-GAP domain, and an SH2 domain. This protein possesses GTPase-activating protein activity regulated by phospholipid binding. Diacylglycerol (DAG) binding induces translocation of the protein from the cytosol to the Golgi apparatus membrane. It plays a role in smooth muscle cell proliferation and migration. Decreased CHN2 expression is linked to high-grade gliomas and breast tumors, while increased expression is associated with lymphomas. Mutations in this gene have been associated with schizophrenia in men. Different isoforms are produced through alternative splicing.

CHN2 is also known as ARHGAP3, BCH, CHN2-3, RHOGAP3.
