CHN1 : chimerin 1

Description

The CHN1 (chimerin 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

The CHN1 gene provides instructions for making a protein called N-chimaerin. This protein plays a vital role in the early development of the nervous system, specifically in regulating complex signaling pathways during the formation of nerve cells (neurons). N-chimaerin is crucial for guiding the growth of axons and dendrites, the specialized extensions of neurons that transmit and receive nerve impulses throughout the nervous system. It is particularly important for the development of certain cranial nerves, specifically cranial nerve VI and, to a lesser extent, cranial nerve III, which control eye movements.

CHN1 is also known as ARHGAP2, CHN, DURS2, NC, RHOGAP2.
