CHI3L1

Description

The CHI3L1 (chitinase 3 like 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

CHI3L1, also known as YKL-40, is a secreted glycoprotein with a molecular weight of approximately 40 kDa. It is encoded by the CHI3L1 gene and is expressed and secreted by various cell types, including macrophages, chondrocytes, fibroblast-like synovial cells, vascular smooth muscle cells, and hepatic stellate cells. While its specific biological function is unknown, its expression is linked to various pathological processes, including inflammation, extracellular tissue remodeling, fibrosis, solid carcinomas, asthma, and chitin hydrolysis. It is a member of the glycosyl hydrolase 18 family but lacks chitinase activity.

CHI3L1 is also known as ASRT7, CGP-39, GP-39, GP39, HC-gp39, HCGP-3P, YK-40, YKL-40, YKL40, YYL-40, hCGP-39.
