Chronic Glomerulonephritis (CGN)

Description

Chronic glomerulonephritis (CGN) is a chronic kidney disease that affects the glomeruli, the tiny filters in the kidneys that remove waste products from the blood. CGN can cause scarring and damage to the glomeruli, leading to impaired kidney function and eventually kidney failure.

  • Autoimmune diseases: Lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and Goodpasture's syndrome
  • Infections: Bacterial (e.g., streptococcal infections) and viral (e.g., HIV)
  • Metabolic disorders: Diabetes and gout
  • Genetic disorders: Alport syndrome and polycystic kidney disease
  • Exposure to toxins: Heavy metals, certain medications, and herbal remedies
