CEP68

Description

The CEP68 (centrosomal protein 68) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

CEP68 is a protein that is essential for centrosome cohesion in humans. It is encoded by the CEP68 gene and is located on the fibers emanating from the proximal ends of centrioles. CEP68 is required for the association of rootletin with centrioles. Both CEP68 and rootletin need CEP250 for their function. CEP68 dissociates from centrosomes during mitosis.

CEP68 plays a role in maintaining centrosome cohesion, likely by acting as a linker that prevents centrosome separation. It is also necessary for the localization of CDK5RAP2 to the centrosome during interphase. Additionally, CEP68 contributes to the formation of CROCC/rootletin filaments.

CEP68 is also known as KIAA0582.
