CEP295

Description

The CEP295 (centrosomal protein 295) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

CEP295 is a centriole-enriched microtubule-binding protein involved in centriole biogenesis. It is essential for the generation of the distal portion of new-born centrioles during the cell cycle S/G2 phase, after the formation of the initiating cartwheel structure. CEP295 is required for the recruitment of centriolar proteins, such as POC1B, POC5 and CEP135, into the distal portion of centrioles. It is also required for centriole-to-centrosome conversion during mitotic progression, but is dispensable for cartwheel removal or centriole disengagement. CEP295 binds to and stabilizes centriolar microtubules.

CEP295 is also known as KIAA1731, SCKL11.
