The CEP170 (centrosomal protein 170) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

CEP170 is a protein encoded by the CEP170 gene in humans. It is a component of the centrosome, an organelle responsible for organizing microtubules in animal cells. During interphase, CEP170 is located in the sub-distal appendages of centrioles, which are microtubule-based structures. During mitosis, it associates with spindle microtubules near the centrosomes. CEP170 interacts with several other proteins, including IFT81, PRAX-1, and is phosphorylated by Cdk1 and PLK1. It plays a role in maintaining microtubule organization, cell morphology, and cilium stability. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants of this gene have been found, but the full-length nature of some of these variants has not been determined.

CEP170 plays a vital role in maintaining the proper arrangement of microtubules within the cell. It is essential for the formation of the centriole subdistal appendage, a structure crucial for organizing the centrosome.
