CEP162

Description

The CEP162 (centrosomal protein 162) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

CEP162 plays a crucial role in building the transition zone of primary cilia. It recognizes and binds to the axonemal microtubule, which are the building blocks of the cilia. Before cilia formation, CEP162 localizes to the ends of centrioles and directly attaches to the axonemal microtubule, ensuring the transition zone forms correctly at the base of the cilia. It also mediates the interaction between CEP290 and the microtubules.

CEP162 is also known as C6orf84, KIAA1009, QN1.
