CENPM

Description

The CENPM (centromere protein M) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 22.

Centromere protein M, also known as proliferation associated nuclear element 1 (PANE1), is a protein encoded by the CENPM gene in humans. It plays a crucial role in centromere assembly and immune response. An alternative transcript of the CENPM gene produces a leukocyte antigen specifically expressed in B-lymphoid cells.

CENPM is a component of the CENPA-NAC complex, which plays a critical role in assembling kinetochore proteins, ensuring proper mitotic progression and accurate chromosome segregation during cell division. The CENPA-NAC complex recruits the CENPA-CAD complex, potentially facilitating the incorporation of newly synthesized CENPA into centromeres.

CENPM is also known as C22orf18, CENP-M, PANE1.
