CENPI

Description

The CENPI (centromere protein I) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.

Centromere protein I (CENPI) is a protein encoded by the CENPI gene in humans. It plays a role in the response of gonadal tissues to follicle-stimulating hormone. CENPI is also a potential candidate for human X-linked disorders of gonadal development and gametogenesis. It is a target gene of the transcription factor E2F. Increased CENPI expression has been observed in breast cancer and is associated with chromosome instability in breast cancer cells.

CENPI is a component of the CENPA-CAD complex, which is recruited to centromeres and plays a role in the assembly of kinetochore proteins, mitotic progression, and chromosome segregation. It may be involved in the incorporation of newly synthesized CENPA into centromeres through its interaction with the CENPA-NAC complex. CENPI is essential for the localization of CENPF, MAD1L1, and MAD2 (MAD2L1 or MAD2L2) to kinetochores. It also participates in the response of gonadal tissues to follicle-stimulating hormone.

CENPI is also known as CENP-I, FSHPRH1, LRPR1.
