CENPC

Description

The CENPC (centromere protein C) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

CENPC is a protein that plays a central role in the assembly of kinetochore proteins, mitotic progression and chromosome segregation. It is a component of the CENPA-NAC complex, which recruits the CENPA-CAD complex and may be involved in incorporation of newly synthesized CENPA into centromeres. CENPC recruits DNA methylation and DNMT3B to both centromeric and pericentromeric satellite repeats and regulates the histone code in these regions.

CENPC is also known as CENP-C, CENPC1, MIF2, hcp-4.
