CELSR3

Description

The CELSR3 (cadherin EGF LAG seven-pass G-type receptor 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

CELSR3 encodes a protein belonging to the flamingo subfamily within the cadherin superfamily. These cadherins differ from the classic type as they don't interact with catenins. Flamingo cadherins reside on the cell membrane and feature a unique structure: nine cadherin domains, seven epidermal growth factor-like repeats, and two laminin A G-type repeats in their extracellular region, along with seven transmembrane domains. They are believed to function as receptors in cell-to-cell communication, using their cadherin domains for homophilic binding and their EGF-like domains for cell adhesion and receptor-ligand interactions. The precise function of CELSR3 remains to be fully elucidated.

This protein may play a crucial role in communication between cells during the development of the nervous system.

CELSR3 is also known as ADGRC3, CDHF11, EGFL1, FMI1, HFMI1, MEGF2, RESDA1.
