CELF4

Description

The CELF4 (CUGBP Elav-like family member 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 18.

CELF4 is an RNA-binding protein that plays a role in regulating pre-mRNA alternative splicing. It can mediate the inclusion or exclusion of exons in pre-mRNA, depending on the specific gene and tissue context. CELF4 is involved in tissue-specific and developmentally regulated splicing events. For example, it activates the inclusion of exon 5 in cardiac isoforms of TNNT2 during heart development. CELF4 also promotes the exclusion of smooth muscle and non-muscle exons in actinin pre-mRNAs. Additionally, it activates the splicing of MAPT/Tau exon 10. CELF4 binds to muscle-specific splicing enhancer (MSE) intronic sites flanking the alternative exon 5 of TNNT2 pre-mRNA.

CELF4 is also known as BRUNOL4, CELF-4.
