Description
Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a type of cancer that starts in white blood cells called lymphocytes. Lymphocytes are part of the body‘s immune system, and they help protect us from infections. In CLL, these lymphocytes become abnormal and start to multiply uncontrollably.
CLL is a slow-growing type of leukemia, and many people with the disease can live for many years without needing treatment. However, CLL can eventually become more aggressive and require treatment.

CLL is often associated with other autoimmune conditions, such as:
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Sjogren‘s syndrome
- Celiac disease
- Thyroid disease
- MODY
CLL can also increase the risk of developing other types of cancer, such as:
- Skin cancer
- Lung cancer
- Prostate cancer
