Description

The CEACAM3 (CEA cell adhesion molecule 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

CEACAM3, also known as CD66d, is a member of the carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) gene family. It encodes a transmembrane protein involved in the phagocytosis of several bacterial species, a process dependent on the small GTPase Rac. CEACAM3 plays a crucial role in the innate immune system's control of human-specific pathogens. This gene is expressed exclusively on granulocytes and is used as a granulocyte marker. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described, but their biological validity remains undetermined.
