CDKN3

Description

The CDKN3 (cyclin dependent kinase inhibitor 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.

CDKN3 is a human gene that encodes a protein belonging to the dual specificity protein phosphatase family. It inhibits the activation of CDK2 kinase by interacting with and dephosphorylating it. CDKN3 has been found to be deleted, mutated, or overexpressed in various cancers. CDKN3 interacts with cyclin-dependent kinase 2, Cdk1, and MS4A3.

CDKN3 plays a role in cell cycle regulation. It acts as a dual specificity phosphatase, removing phosphate groups from both tyrosine and serine residues on target proteins. Specifically, it dephosphorylates CDK2 at threonine 160 in a cyclin-dependent manner.

CDKN3 is also known as CDI1, CIP2, KAP, KAP1.
