CDH6

Description

The CDH6 (cadherin 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.

Cadherin-6 is a protein encoded by the CDH6 gene in humans. It belongs to the cadherin superfamily and is a type II classical cadherin. The protein is a calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion glycoprotein with five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail. Cadherins mediate cell-cell binding through homophilic interactions, contributing to the sorting of diverse cell types and maintaining organized structures like epithelium. High levels of this gene's expression have been observed in hepatocellular and renal carcinoma cell lines, suggesting a potential role in metastasis and invasion.

CDH6 is also known as CAD6, KCAD.
