CDH4

Description

The CDH4 (cadherin 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 20.

Cadherin-4 is a protein encoded by the CDH4 gene in humans. It belongs to the cadherin superfamily, a group of calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion glycoproteins. Cadherin-4 is comprised of five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a highly conserved cytoplasmic tail. Research in chickens and mice suggests its involvement in brain segmentation and neuronal outgrowth, as well as kidney and muscle development. Notably, studies have shown stable cis-heterodimers of cadherins 2 and 4 in cotransfected cell lines, providing the first evidence of cadherin heterodimerization, a phenomenon previously thought to involve only homophilic interactions.

CDH4 is also known as CAD4, R-CAD, RCAD.
