CDH17

Description

The CDH17 (cadherin 17) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 8.

Cadherin-17 is a protein encoded by the CDH17 gene in humans. It belongs to the cadherin superfamily, which includes calcium-dependent, membrane-associated glycoproteins. The protein has a structure resembling cadherins, featuring an extracellular region with 7 cadherin domains and a transmembrane region, but lacking a conserved cytoplasmic domain. It is a key component of the gastrointestinal tract and pancreatic ducts, acting as an intestinal proton-dependent peptide transporter in the initial step of oral absorption for numerous peptide-based medications. Additionally, the protein is believed to play a role in the structural organization of the liver and intestine.

CDH17 is also known as CDH16, HPT-1, HPT1.
