CDH16

Description

The CDH16 (cadherin 16) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 16.

Cadherin-16 is a protein encoded by the CDH16 gene in humans. It belongs to the cadherin family, which consists of calcium-dependent cell adhesion proteins. Located on chromosome 16q22.1, CDH16 shares a chromosomal region with other cadherin genes like CDH1, CDH3, CDH5, CDH8, and CDH11. Although it contains 6 cadherin domains, a transmembrane region, and a truncated cytoplasmic domain, it lacks the prosequence and tripeptide HAV adhesion recognition sequence typical of classical cadherins. CDH16 is exclusively expressed in the kidney, where it plays a crucial role in cell-to-cell recognition and tissue development.
