CDC23
Description
The CDC23 (cell division cycle 23) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.
CDC23, encoded by the CDC23 gene, is a human protein essential for cell cycle progression through the G2/M transition. It is a component of the anaphase-promoting complex (APC), a highly conserved complex in eukaryotic cells. CDC23 is similar to Saccharomyces cerevisiae Cdc23 and contains a TPR domain, crucial for protein-protein interactions. CDC23 interacts with CDC27 and plays a role in the ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis of B-type cyclins.
CDC23 is a component of the anaphase promoting complex/cyclosome (APC/C), a cell cycle-regulated E3 ubiquitin ligase that controls progression through mitosis and the G1 phase of the cell cycle. The APC/C complex ubiquitinates and degrades target proteins, primarily forming 'Lys-11'-linked polyubiquitin chains and, to a lesser extent, 'Lys-48'- and 'Lys-63'-linked chains.
