CD180

Description

The CD180 (CD180 molecule) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.

CD180 is a protein found on the surface of immune cells, particularly B cells and dendritic cells. It helps the immune system recognize and respond to bacteria. CD180 works together with other proteins, like MD-1 and TLR4, to detect a specific bacterial component called lipopolysaccharide (LPS). This interaction activates a signaling pathway called NF-kappa-B, which helps the immune system fight off infection. Recent research has shown that CD180 also plays a role in the survival and prognosis of B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia, a type of blood cancer.

CD180 works alongside MD-1 and TLR4 to initiate the body's defense against bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in B-cells. This interaction triggers NF-kappa-B activation, a key signaling pathway in immune responses. Additionally, CD180 plays a role in determining the survival or death of B-cells.

CD180 is also known as LY64, Ly78, RP105.
