Description

The CCR8 (C-C motif chemokine receptor 8) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

CCR8 is a protein encoded by the CCR8 gene in humans. It belongs to the beta chemokine receptor family and is predicted to be a seven transmembrane protein similar to G protein-coupled receptors. Chemokines and their receptors are crucial for the migration of various cell types to inflammatory sites. CCR8 is primarily expressed in the thymus and its main ligand is CCL1. CCL8 can also act as an agonist for CCR8. Research suggests that CCR8 plays a role in regulating monocyte chemotaxis and thymic cell apoptosis. It may contribute to the proper positioning of activated T cells in antigenic challenge sites and specialized areas of lymphoid tissues. The CCR8 gene is located within the chemokine receptor gene cluster region.
