CCNG1

Description

The CCNG1 (cyclin G1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.

Cyclin-G1 is a protein encoded by the CCNG1 gene in humans. It belongs to the cyclin family and contains the cyclin box. Unlike other family members, it lacks the PEST sequence responsible for protein degradation. Cyclin-G1 is involved in the regulation of the cell cycle, specifically in the activity of cyclin-dependent protein kinases (CDKs). Its expression is triggered by tumor protein p53. It interacts with proteins like Mdm2, P16, P53, and PPP2R4. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.

Cyclin-G1, encoded by the CCNG1 gene, potentially plays a role in regulating cell growth. It is linked to G2/M phase arrest in response to DNA damage, suggesting a role in cell cycle control. Further, Cyclin-G1 might act as an intermediary in p53's function as a cellular proliferation inhibitor.

CCNG1 is also known as CCNG.
