CCL24
Description
The CCL24 (C-C motif chemokine ligand 24) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.
CCL24, also known as myeloid progenitor inhibitory factor 2 (MPIF-2) or eosinophil chemotactic protein 2 (eotaxin-2), is a protein encoded by the CCL24 gene on human chromosome 7. It is a small cytokine belonging to the CC chemokine family. CCL24 interacts with the chemokine receptor CCR3 to attract eosinophils. It also attracts resting T lymphocytes and has a slight attraction for neutrophils. Higher levels of eotaxin-2 are seen in patients with aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease (AERD), such as asthma. Individuals with lower plasma levels of eotaxin-2 have not been found to be prone to developing aspirin-induced asthma.
CCL24 attracts resting T-lymphocytes and eosinophils, but has lower attraction for neutrophils and no attraction for monocytes or activated lymphocytes. It also strongly inhibits the formation of colonies from multipotential hematopoietic progenitor cells. CCL24 interacts with the CCR3 receptor.
