Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)

Description

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive condition in which the kidneys gradually lose their ability to function properly. The kidneys are responsible for filtering waste products from the blood and producing urine. In CKD, the kidneys become damaged and less able to perform these functions.

Stages of CKD

CKD is classified into five stages, depending on the level of kidney function:

  • Stage 1: Mild CKD
  • Stage 2: Moderate CKD
  • Stage 3: Severe CKD
  • Stage 4: Kidney failure
  • Stage 5: End-stage renal disease (ESRD)

CKD is often associated with other health conditions, including:
