CCDC25

Description

The CCDC25 (coiled-coil domain containing 25) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 8.

CCDC25 is a transmembrane receptor that detects neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), which are mainly composed of DNA fibers released by neutrophils to bind pathogens during inflammation. CCDC25 binds specifically to the 8-OHdG-enriched DNA present in NETs, recruiting ILK (integrin-linked kinase) and activating the ILK-PARVB pathway. This pathway triggers cytoskeleton rearrangement and directional cell migration, promoting cell motility. In cancer, CCDC25 senses NETs and promotes the migration of tumor cells, contributing to cancer metastasis.
