CBX4
Description
The CBX4 (chromobox 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.
CBX4 is a human gene that encodes a protein involved in gene regulation and development. It functions as a component of the Polycomb group (PcG) PRC1-like complex, which represses gene expression. CBX4 also acts as an E3 SUMO-protein ligase, facilitating the attachment of SUMO1 to other proteins.
CBX4 acts as an E3 SUMO-protein ligase, facilitating the attachment of SUMO1 to target proteins through the action of UBE2I. This process is involved in the sumoylation of HNRNPK, a coactivator of the tumor suppressor gene p53, indirectly regulating p53's transcriptional activity and leading to the expression of p21, a cell cycle inhibitor. CBX4 also monoubiquitinates the zinc finger protein ZNF131.
