CBX1
Description
The CBX1 (chromobox 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.
CBX1 is a protein that is encoded by the CBX1 gene in humans. It is located at heterochromatin sites, regions of densely packed DNA, where it helps to silence genes. CBX1 interacts with various proteins, including those involved in heterochromatin formation and gene silencing.
CBX1 is a component of heterochromatin, a densely packed region of DNA. It specifically recognizes and binds to histone H3 tails that are modified with a methyl group at the 9th lysine residue. This binding triggers epigenetic repression, meaning it silences genes in that region. CBX1 can also interact with the lamin B receptor (LBR), which helps connect the heterochromatin to the inner nuclear membrane, the boundary of the cell's nucleus.
CBX1 is also known as CBX, HP1-BETA, HP1Hs-beta, HP1Hsbeta, Hp1beta, M31, MOD1, p25beta.
