CARF

Description

The CARF (calcium responsive transcription factor) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

The acronym CARF can refer to multiple things, including a gene, a protein, and several different protein names.

CARF functions as a transcriptional activator. It specifically stimulates the production of BDNF exon III in neurons in response to calcium signals. CARF achieves this by binding to a specific DNA sequence called CaRE1, which has the sequence 5'-CTATTTCGAG-3'.

CARF is also known as ALS2CR8, NYD-SP24.
