CAPN5

Description

The CAPN5 (calpain 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

Calpain-5 is a protein encoded by the CAPN5 gene in humans. Calpains are a family of calcium-dependent cysteine proteases involved in various cellular processes. A functional calpain protein is composed of an invariant small subunit and one large subunit from a family of large subunits. CAPN5 is one of these large subunits. Unlike some calpains, CAPN5 and CAPN6 lack a calmodulin-like domain IV. Due to its significant similarity to the Caenorhabditis elegans sex determination gene tra-3, CAPN5 is also called HTRA3.

CAPN5 is also known as ADNIV, HTRA3, VRNI, nCL-3.
